Some Aspects of Structural-Dynamic Analysis of Foreign Exchange Market in Russia

Author: Oksana V. Somova

Abstract:

The article analyzes foreign exchange market in Russia for the period 2011−2014, when it experienced the destruction of a kind of monopoly of commercial banks on providing access to trading in foreign exchange market, which led to the entry of many individual investors (citizens) and investment companies into the foreign exchange market. The changes in the structure of the foreign exchange market participants has largely determined the nature of its dynamic and structural transformations. The findings of the structural-dynamic analysis allowed the author to conclude about, firstly, a significant increase in the level of liquidity of the market under consideration, secondly, increasing number of transactions completed in this market, and thirdly, a more substantial role of large (institutional) investors working mainly in the segment of swap transactions.
