Advances in Modern Economic Thinking

Authors:

Yevgeny P. Dyatel

Abstract:

The paper briefly reviews the content and main conclusions of the monograph “Economic theory in historical development: A view from France and Russia”, which deals with scientists’ contribution to formation of economic thinking. Particular attention is devoted to physiocracy as the first scientific economic school, which exerted a profound impact on the development of the most important for many Russian economists class and reproduction approaches; political economy of sensualists, which is littleknown to Russian readers and can be called a precursor to modern theory of economic choice; system approach to the history of economic thought, which is widely applied by French and Russian contributing authors. The last fact allows regarding the monograph as a serious claim to form a continuum (unity in time and space) of economic thought, what makes economic science more multifaceted, as well as long forgotten ideas more relevant, and casts light onto the nature of the basic propositions of economic theory.

Keywords: economic thinking; reproduction approach; political economy of sensualists; continuum of economic thought.
